NAIROBI, Kenya, May 28 – Marauding AFC Leopards will encounter familiar foes at the quarterfinals of the Cecafa Nile Basin Cup in Ethiopia’s Defence after completing the perfect record in Group B with a 1-0 win over Burundi’s Academie Tchite.
The unbeaten Ingwe were lifted by substitute Bernard Mangoli in the 83rd minute to wrap up their group assignments with three victories on the bounce and will meet Defence who came second in Group C.
Leopards beat Defence 4-2 on aggregate in their CAF Confederations Cup preliminary round two-legged clash in January before their run in the second tier continental competition ended at the hands of South Africa’s SuperSport in the next phase.
Leopards coach Dutch Hendrik Pieter de Jongh, made five changes from the squad that beat Tanzania’s Mbeya City 2-1.
Martin Musalia started in between the sticks for Patrick Matasi while Joseph Shikokoti, Martin Imbalambala and Oscar Kandege started in places of Edwin Wafula, Augustine Etemesi and Mang’oli.
Winger Noah Wafula was rested with Charlse Okwemba coming in.
In the earlier kick-off, Rwanda’s Etincelles and Mbeya settled for a goalless draw with the latter meeting Uganda’s Victoria University in the quarters after finishing second to Leopards.
