Scolari denies Portugal tax rap

SCOLARI-SQUADRIO DE JANEIRO, May 13th – Brazil coach Luiz Felipe Scolari on Tuesday denied any wrongdoing after being accused of tax evasion in Portugal.

Media reports had said Scolari was alleged to have not paid some $9 million in back tax dating from his 2003-2008 stint with the Portuguese national side.

“I made all my income tax declarations correctly,” Scolari, who coached Brazil to the 2002 World Cup title, said in a statement.

“I always declared my earnings in all the countries I worked in,” he insisted.

“I am absolutely convinced of the correctness of my declarations,” he added.

“If there is something wrong it is not of my doing,” said Scolari, who invited the authorities to look into “all the facts.”
