LONDON, England, February 20- Arsenal youngster Serge Gnabry has committed his international future to Germany, deciding against representing the Ivory Coast.
The winger was born in Stuttgart and his mother is German, but he is eligible to play for the Ivory Coast because his father hails from the west African country.
Gnabry has turned out for Germany at youth level and has now stated his intention to make the step up to the senior team.
“Since I have played for the Germany youth teams, it is no question for me that I want to play for Germany by any means,” he told Die Welt.
“I hope that I can make the leap into the first team.”
However, the priority for the 18-year-old is establishing himself as an Arsenal regular, as opportunities with the German national team are unlikely to materialise until he does so.
“I am fully focused on Arsenal in order to win minutes there,” he asserted.
“Because, to be honest, if that does not happen, making the national team will be extremely difficult. We will see what happens in the future.”
