LONDON, England, February 19-Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere is hopeful the side have learnt from their lessons as they prepare for Wednesday’s Champions League last-16 clash against Bayern Munich.
This week’s tie represents a repeat of last season’s encounter, where the Bavarians emerged 3-1 victors in north London to render the Gunners’ 2-0 away win in the return fixture inconsequential due to the away goals ruling.
Bayern will again travel to the Emirates, this time looking to become the first team to defend the title in the Champions League era, but Wilshere believes Arsenal will prove a much different test compared to 2013.
“We were a bit nervous going into the game last year,” Wilshere said.
“We lost to Blackburn (in the FA Cup) the game before. There was a lot of tension in the stadium and it was a big game.
“Once we calmed down a bit, we took the game to them a little bit. The third goal was a lucky goal and that killed us.
“This year we’ll be intelligent going into the game. First of all we’ll work on our defensive duty and then we’ll play.”
