Mertesacker eyes Bayern Per-fection

PER-MERTESACKERLONDON, February 17- Arsenal defender Per Mertesacker believes the side will need to produce “two perfect games” if they are to beat Bayern Munich and progress to the Champions League quarter-finals.

The two European giants clash on Tuesday in a repeat of last year’s European Cup last-16 tie where the Bavarians emerged triumphant over the two legs on their way to lifting the title.

Bayern are currently one of the world’s in-form teams, having gone unbeaten in 46 Bundesliga matches while they are also on a run of 13 straight wins, leaving Mertesacker well aware of the stern task the Gunners face.

“We have to go for two perfect games against them,” the Germany international told the Daily Mirror.

“We know we can beat them now, so maybe mentally we are in a better condition than last year.

“We respected them too much in the first leg then (a 3-1 defeat), so it was too easy for them.

“Maybe we have learned something from those lessons and will do better this time.

“Now we have another chance, and an opportunity to beat the champions. We want to achieve something exceptional this season, so we have to beat the best.

“That is not only Manchester City and Chelsea (in the Premier League), that is Bayern Munich in the Champions League.”
