NAIROBI, Kenya, October 13- There was no repeat of last year’s heroics for Kenya after hosts Australia ended their Main Cup hopes with a 24-12 win in their quarterfinal on Sunday.
Fiji rubbed salt on the wound when they hammered Kenya 36-0 in the Plate final by running in six unanswered tries.
Felix Ochieng’s charges looked on course to repeat their win over the Australians after responding from going behind to Shannon Walker converted try by taking a 12-7 lead to the break.
Biko Adema and Patrice Agunda crossed the whitewash for the tries with the former converting one and missing the other.
Ed Jenkins and the boot of Cameron Clark gave Australia the lead soon after the restart Sean McMahon and Nick Malouf breached the Kenyan defence to complete the scoring by reversing the result from last season.
Oscar Ouma and Felix Ayange landed with Biko Adema converting the first to give Kenya a 12-7 victory in their Plate semi against Wales despite falling behind to a converted try by Adam Thomas early in the game.
The match started on a dour note when Billy Odhiambo was sent to the sin bin when the game was still locked at 0-0 just over a minute to the break.
