NAIROBI, Kenya, September 21- AFC Leopards at last ended the ten year jinx against Chemelil as Sony Sugar stunned Kenyan Premier League (KPL) champions Tusker in the highlights of GOTv Shield action on Saturday.
With KPL taking a break to pave way for the cup competition this weekend, Ingwe under new interim coach, James Nandwa, saw off the cane cutters who humbled them 3-1 last weekend by a lone Charles Okwemba goal to book their place in the quarters.
Veteran Okwemba scored the winner on 74 minutes to avenge the league loss that saw Leopards sack their Belgian coach, Luc Eymael, earlier this week to record a first win in five.
Ingwe had chances to extend the lead but Allan Wanga wasted their bets opportunity 11 minutes from time failing to beat the keeper after being out through by Barasa but they held on to beat Chemelil for the first time since 1998.
At Awendo, Sony Sugar dispatched Tusker FC by a similar score line to book their place in the quarters with Samuel Onyango towering over the brewers defence from a 71st minute corner to notch the all important strike.
In Nairobi, Mathare United once again stopped Ulinzi Stars 8-7 on post match penalties at City Stadium to book their passage to the last eight.
Youthful goalkeeper Robert Mboya was the hero for the slum boys scoring the eighth penalty before making a fine save to deny Amon Mwamburi and send his side to the last eight. The match had 0-0 in regulation time.
