Neymar, Alba to have tonsils removed

JORDI-ALBA-SPAINMADRID, Spain, July 2 – Barcelona’s star new recruit Brazilian international Neymar and defender Jordi Alba will both undergo surgery to remove their tonsils on Friday and they face a 10-day recovery, the Catalan club announced Monday.

The operations had been scheduled to take place after the Confederations Cup final in Rio de Janeiro on Sunday, when Brazil crushed Spain 3-0 with the help of a sizzling left-footed goal by Neymar.

“Neymar will undergo his surgery in Rio de Janeiro and a member of FC Barcelona’s medical services will be present,” Barcelona said in an online statement.

Barcelona’s 24-year-old defender Alba will have his tonsils out on the same day but at a clinic near Barcelona.

The estimated recovery time is 10 days, the club said.
