Beaten Mancini terms Job speculation ‘rubbish’

WIGAN-CITEHLONDON, England, May 11- Manager Roberto Mancini said speculation about his Manchester City future was “rubbish” and vowed to still be at the club next season after his side were stunned 1-0 by Wigan Athletic in the FA Cup final on Saturday.

Spanish media reports claim Mancini could be replaced by Malaga coach Manuel Pellegrini in the close season and City’s defeat at Wembley Stadium left them without a major trophy for the first time in three years.

However, Mancini struck a bullish tone after the game and flatly dismissed the rumours about his future at the Etihad Stadium.

“It’s rubbish, this speculation. I will still be here next season. It is rubbish. I am very sorry for our fans,” he told ITV.

Wigan won through an injury-time header from substitute Ben Watson to claim their first major honour and Mancini conceded that his side had been second-best.

“It was a good game,” he said. “They scored in the last minute and for us it was very difficult. We didn’t play very well, I don’t know why.

“We had a chance because we had two or three incredible chances, but in the end we didn’t play like we usually do.”
