United, Arsenal target Goetze joins Bayern

MARIO-GOETZEBERLIN, Germany, April 23 – Champions League semi-finalists Bayern Munich are set to announce the signing of Germany star Mario Goetze from Bundesliga rivals Borussia Dortmund for 37 million euros ($48.2 million, £32 million), according to German daily Bild.

The 20-year-old attacking midfielder has a contract at Dortmund until 2016 but a specific clause in his deal allows him to leave for 37 million euros and the tabloid said that Goetze has already signed a long-term deal with German champions Bayern.

With ex-Barcelona manager Pep Guardiola set to take over as Bayern coach on July 1, Goetze would be the first addition to his new squad, while Barcelona, Manchester City and Arsenal have all reportedly been interested in the German.

Bayern host Barcelona in the Champions League semi-final, first-leg at home on Tuesday, while Dortmund are at home to Real Madrid on Wednesday in the other last-four clash.

Having won the German league title for the last two seasons, Dortmund have missed out to Bayern this season. Munich won the Bundesliga a fortnight ago with six games to spare and a 20-point lead.

Born in Allgaeu, Bavaria, only 120 kilometres (75 miles) from Munich, Goetze joined Dortmund in 2001 as an eight-year-old and made his Bundesliga debut in 2009, aged 17. His first appearance for Germany came in October 2010.

He has since made 22 appearances for Joachim Loew’s Germany and scored five goals, the first of which came on his first start in the 3-2 friendly win over Brazil in August 2011, when the then 19-year-old was outstanding.
