NAIROBI, Kenya, March 18- Celtic star Victor Wanyama and captain Dennis Oliech are among the final Harambee Stars travelling squad of 19 players that will feature in Saturday’s 2014 World Cup qualifier against Nigeria.
Head coach Adel Amrouche released the line-up on Monday ahead of his maiden match in charge with the team set to travel to Nigeria on Wednesday morning aboard a Kenya Airways flight.
David Gateri (Salt River Black Pool, SA), Brian Mandela (Santos, SA), Arnold Origi (Lillestrom, Norway), Johanna Omolo (Bierschott, Belgium) and Jamal Mohammed (Al Nasr, Oman) are the other foreign based players who made the final squad.
Amrouche reconvened the team’s training camp on Sunday ahead of his baptism of fire at the UJ Esunene Stars in the Nigerian coastal city.
It will be the first time the Algerian born Belgian national will have a look at the full complement of his players.
According to Bolao Akins an official of the Nigeria FA, the association will charter a plane to fly the Stars from Lagos upon arrival since there are no commercial flights from the capital city to Calabar and it takes 12 hours by road to cover the 850km journey.
The team will be staying at the Channel View Hotel and it is only one hour by air from the Murtala Muhammed Airport in Lagos to Calabar Airport
“Football Kenya Federation is working closely with the Kenyan High Commission in Nigeria and the first Secretary Antony Masinde is working round the clock to ensure that Stars feel at home
“We have mobilised Kenyans living and working in Nigeria to travel to Calabar and cheer our team, and even our High Commissioner Thomas Amolo will also be attending,”
