Logarusic seeks Kiongera cure in Seychelles

LOGARUSIC-LUONAIROBI, Kenya, February 28- Paul Mungai Kiongera is the only new Gor Mahia signing included in the 18-man travelling squad to Seychelles as K’Ogalo departed to Seychelles in a bid to salvage their CAF Confederations Cup bid.

With the tie poised at 0-0 after the first leg in Nairobi a fortnight ago, Gor coach, Zradvko Logarusic stuck with the side that overcame league champions Tusker 5-4 on penalties during last Saturday’s DStv/SuperSport Cup.

“I have retained most of my players in the team and I have told them they have to give 100 percent and get a win away from home.

“We have prepared well and to me this will be a do or die affair as we will see to beat our opponents in their backyard despite the first round performance,” the Croat tactician told before the side’s departure on Thursday morning.

Earlier, Logarusic indicated his squad was yet to get going this season having embarked on their pre-season only a month ago, a factor he blamed his side’s stalemate against Anse Re-Union at home.

“The players have only worked with the ball for 20 percent since we started training. The 80 percent was on fitness and conditioning and this is my way of preparing the team for the main target of winning the league,” he charged.

In Kiongera, the man signed from KCB last season, Logarusic sees the missing ingredient in the side that came within one win of lifting the domestic title for the first time since 1995 when they were pipped by Tusker FC to the finish line.

“Kiongera is a creative player who is able to link the attack well from midfield and he is an option going forward. I expect to see the best of his abilities as the season progresses,” Logarusic added on his star signing.

The returning Rama Salim and striking duo of Edwin Lavatsa and Ugandan top scorer from last season, Dan Sserunkuma will be charged with the task of firing the 1987 CAF Cup Winners Cup (Mandela Cup now defunct) to the preliminary round of the second tier continental competition.

A glamour tie against Egyptian titans ENNPI awaits the winners of Saturday’s clash.
