Voi Rally postponed over campaigns

TUNDO-EVO-9NAIROBI, Kenya January 14 – The KCB Mobi Bank Rally that was scheduled for the weekend of February 23 and 24 in Voi has been postponed after falling victim to the General Elections campaign period.

“We have been reliably informed that one of the parties involved will be having a major rally in Voi on that weekend.

“They have even already booked the main stadium where we were to hold part of the rally,” Surinder Thatti who is the Clerk of Course for the second round of the Kenya National Rally Championship told Capital Sport Thursday.

He added: “We had already handed out 38 entry forms and 18 had confirmed participation and even paid the fees. So that was an indication that even with prior knowledge of the on going campaigns drivers were ready to come for the rally.”

Organisers East Africa Safari Rally Limited had finalised planning for the event with the route drawn up but they are now looking for a later date in March.

Thatthi said the rally headquarters were set for Voi Wildlife Lodge where scrutineering and Parc Ferme was to be staged which is located 5.8Km from the local branch of sponsors KCB at the edge of Tsavo National Park.

Four longer competitive sections were to see the crew tackle Taita Hills and run in the Kisushe, Ghazi, Shelembwa and Wundanyi areas.

Defending and three time champion Carl Tundo was raring to make up for the bad start to the season after he was knocked out of the Kajiado Rally with turbo problems in the early stages.

Baldev Chager opened his 2013 campaign with a neat drive in Kajiado and currently leads the KNRC series with a maximum 80 points.
