Indiza crashes as ‘Rok’ soars in Nyali

MOMBASA, Kenya, August 9- Dismas Indiza made a surprise exit as 28 professionals made the cut  for the KCB Advantage Banking Grand Finale at the par 71 Nyali Golf and Country Club on Thursday.

But Muthaiga’s Nicholas Rokoine was in imperious form  when the Coast tour entered its halfway stage.

Today’s play saw 25 pros fail to make the cut which stood at +13 (155) where Indiza left the course crestfallen and was left to rue what has transpired over the last two days.

Indiza, who played 15 over after two days of intense action, failed to make the cut for the first time ever in his career, when he posted six over yesterday and 9 over on Wednesday.

“Its really painful. I have never missed a cut since I joined professional ranks,” said Indiza.

Rokoine was all smiles as he focused on the remaining two rounds. Similar to what he had chalked up on Day One, he fired 3 under 68 to end his day two onslaught on 6 under 136.

So far, Rokoine is the only man to have played below par since the event started on Wednesday.

Rokoine dropped two shots on holes 3 and 12 but sunk five birdies on holes 1, 4, 5, 11 and 17.

Three players, Bryan Njoroge, David Wakhu and E. Ruterana of Rwanda finished joint second on 2 over par 144.

Three other pros J. Kagiri, Riz Charannia and Jacob Okello shot 3 over par 145 to finish Day Two action jointly third.

“I played one over today (yesterday). I wasn’t hitting the ball well, so ill take the score-I have no complains though. The course played longer today because of the rains but the scoring conditions were definitely better than yesterday (Wednesday),” Riz commented.

The event in Nayli has been a true test of golf given the windy conditions experienced so far.

“Today the course was really tough because heavy winds blew through in the afternoon session,” said Stuart Cohen after he made the cut on 10 over par 152. Play resumes at 8am tomorrow.

2. Brian Njoroge 144 (+3)
