NAIROBI, Kenya, November 2- Mikaele Pesamino, the 2010 IRB Sevens World Player of the year has been included in the Samoan squad that will feature at this weekend’s Safaricom Safari Sevens in Nairobi.
Pesamino, who ranks fourth amongst the all time leading try scorers on the IRB Sevens World Series chart with 158 touch downs, will definitely light up the stage when his side take to the pitch on Saturday their campaign for the Robin Cahill Main Cup at the Nyayo National Stadium.
The former athlete turned rugby player, 27, who hails from Vailei on the island of Upolu in Samoa, will be the headline act in the annual event.
Meanwhile, British outfit ULR Samurai International RFC have named an all Fijian squad for the tournament.
Naisoni Roko who was called up only last week by the Fijian national team to take part in the RWC qualifiers and David Batiratu who takes over the captaincy of the Samurai are among the key players in the visiting side.
“The Safari 7s has moved this year from June to November and with the UK Rugby season now really heating up player release is more difficult,” team official Mike Friday said.
He added, “The team will consist of youth and experience and will have to the opportunity to showcase their talent in a challenging tournament that will feature Samoa, South Africa, Auckland and Spain amongst other really strong teams.”
