KISUMU, Kenya, August 28 -Ambira High School are the 2011 COPA Coca-Cola champions after beating Chavakali Secondary School 2-0 at Kisumu’s Jomo Kenyatta Sports Ground on Sunday.
Golden Boot winner Rodgers Oyaro and Nelson Nyakha scored in each half as their side defied the slippery conditions to ensure that they reach the summit of Kenya’s premier U-17 football tournament.
Chavakali’s defensive lapses came to haunt them in the 15th minute when they failed to deal with a Collins Omondi cross. Oyaro gathered the loose ball on the edge of the area and his shot beat Chavakali keeper George Musale for the 1-0 lead.
Oyaro, Nyakha and Michael Onyango spent the rest of the half tormenting the Chavakali defence with Omondi playing a supportive role.
Ambira continued dominating in the second half with as Chavakali failed to find any cohesion in their play.
Nyakha extended Ambira’s lead with a spectacular overhead kick 20 minutes into the second half. Once again Omondi was the architect with a cross from a corner which Nyakha connected with for a 2-0 lead.
Oyaro will now head to the Chelsea Academy for a weeklong training camp. He will be joined by the best midfielder George Kimani from Gituru Secondary School and Best defender Benard Ochieng from Ambira.
