Kenya to play at World Cup

NAIROBI, Kenya, August 25 – Kenya’s national women’s volleyball team are the new Africa champions  after beating Africa Cup of Nations champions Algeria.

The host beat the former champions 3-1 (25-10,17-25,25-21, 25-13)  Wednesday at the Africa Nazarene University gymnasium in a hotly contested final.

All departments, both in attack and defense stood out with Attackers Evelyne Makuto and Mercy Moim on the left, Lydia Maiyo on the right and centre Praxidis Agala providing lethal in spiking.

Kenya took the first set and seemed destined for a good run when their pace was slowed down with the Algerians taking the second set eventually wrapping it up.

This only made Kenya side’s resolve even stronger.

The loss of the 2nd set was just a bleep on their journey to victory as they struggled from a three point deficit halfway the set to win 25-21.

Power outage disrupted the play for about 10 minutes in the 4th set, but this did not deter the home ladies.

They came through the dark moment to confirm their place once again as the continental champions.

Egypt finished 3rd after beating Senegal 3-2 in the third place playoff played at the same venue.
