NAIROBI, Kenya, July 11, 2011- Ainul Qamar and Taqwa FC became the first teams to reach the COPA Coca-Cola nationals after winning their respective provincial finals on Sunday.
Ainul Qamar will represent North Eastern province at next month’s finals in Kisumu after sealing the provincial title at Garissa High School.
Ainul’s campaign got off to a lukewarm start with a one all draw against Al Farouq but managed to clinched their ticket to Kisumu with 3-0 wins over Waberi High and Young Muslim Secondary.
In other results, Young Muslim edged out Waberi 3-2 before falling to Al Farouq 2-1.
Taqwa booked their place in the COPA finals showpiece after beating Kibirichia Boys 1-0 in the Eastern ‘B’ finals at Kigaa Primary School in Meru.
In the girl’s competition, Ntunene Girls took the title after beating Gikumene 1-0 in the final.
In the preceding matches, Gikumene beat Isiolo Girls 2-0, Ntunene beat Fan Star 1-0. In the semi –finals, Gikumene beat Chogoria 1-0 while Ntunene beat Kangaru 2-0.
The provincials are set to continue this coming weekend.
