Carmelita Jeter dips under 11 secs


WALNUT, April 17 – American sprinter Carmelita Jeter won the 100m at the Mt. SAC relays in 10.99sec, becoming the first woman this season to run under 11 seconds.Jeter, who earned world championships bronze in 2007 and 2009, comfortably defeated compatriot Consuella Moore (11.31sec) in a race run in a negligible wind of -0.1m/sec.

The meeting produced two other world leading performances on Saturday.

In the high jump, American Jesse Williams cleared 2.34m, four centimeters better than the previous best in 2011, while in the women’s long jump Brittney Reese leapt 6.83m to beat the previous best of the year by 22 centimeters.

Allyson Felix, America’s three-time defending world champion in the 200m, made a cameo appearance as she helped the "Kersee All Stars" squad win the women’s 4x100m relay in 43.10sec.

"It’s just a fun meet," said Felix, who is from nearby Los Angeles. "I’ve run here since high school, I just enjoy it. It’s the only time that my family who are here can come out and support me."
