NAIROBI, Kenya, April 11- Malindi United were among big winners when nine counties hosted the ongoing Copa Coca Cola action over the weekend.In matches staged at Alaskan grounds, Malindi topped Magarini and Barani schools as nine teams vied in the Kilifi County round of the competition.
Mudhafar Bareto proved to be the driving force for Malindi, after he netted a brace in their fixture against Magarini in the 5th and 10th minutes of their tie before completing his hat-trick when he tucked away a spot-kick after the breather.
Karisa Charo pulled one back to leave scores 3-1 to United at the final whistle. In their second match, Bareto’s was once again the toast of his side when his 10th minute strike was enough to edge Barani 1-0 in a tough encounter.
In other matches, Maweni Boys beat Ganze Youth 1-0 thanks to Osbourne Makome before the losers recovered to pip Malindi Youth by a similar margin in their second game. Malindi Youth then won their last match against Maweni Boys 2-0.
In the girls’ category, Barani Girls were the whipping team suffering demorolising 8-1 and 6-0 thrashings at the hands Kilifi Mixed School and Furaha Ladies. Barani stamped their supremacy by beating Furaha 3-1 when the pair squared up.
Apart from Kilifi, Machakos, Narok, Kisumu, Taita Taveta, Isiolo, Tharaka Nithi, Bungoma and Busia counties also hosted the Copa Coca-Cola showdowns.
The competition continues this weekend in Nairobi, Kitui, Nandi, Embu and Migori counties.
