Bale racing against time

LONDON, March 9- Tottenham star Gareth Bale is unlikely to be fit enough to start against AC Milan in Wednesday's crucial Champions League tie at White Hart Lane, Spurs boss Harry Redknapp said Tuesday.

Bale, 21, came back from a six-week injury layoff in Sunday’s 3-3 draw with Wolves but has since complained of stiffness in his legs and is only "touch-and-go" to start against the Serie A leaders.

"Gareth trained this morning, he still felt a little bit stiff. His back was okay but he felt a little stiff in his legs so we will wait until tomorrow to see how he is," Redknapp said.

"It’s touch and go. At the moment it would be doubtful whether he would be fit to start."

Spurs will be defending a 1-0 first leg lead at White Hart Lane on Wednesday following their stormy victory in the San Siro three weeks ago.

However Redknapp has been given a boost by news that Dutch playmaker Rafael van der Vaart is fit to start on Wednesday. Younes Kaboul, Vedran Corluka and Ledley King are also in contention for the tie.
