Kiprop to run in Australia

SYDNEY, February 24 – Kenya's Beijing Olympic 1500m champion Asbel Kiprop will compete in two Australian events next month, Athletics Australia said on Thursday.

Kiprop, 21, will take to the start line in Melbourne on March 3 and Sydney on March 19 as part of the Australian Athletics Tour.

The Kenyan will be up against Australian Jeff Riseley, US mile record holder Alan Webb and New Zealand’s Olympic silver medallist Nick Willis for the 1500m race in Melbourne.

African champion Kiprop boasts a personal best of 3:31.20 and last year was ranked the world’s number one 1500m runner.

Kiprop was edged out after falling in last year’s Melbourne IAAF Track Classic by Riseley with Willis third.
