Board to oversee AFC elections

NAIROBI, Kenya, January 31- A five member election board will oversee the AFC Leopards elections slated during their annual general meeting on February 13.

Leopards’ chairman Julius Ochiel told Capital Sport on Monday that the body was formed after the three camps including Winston Kituyi and former chairman Alex ole Magelo who are challenging for leadership of the club met with sponsors Mumias Sugar who have expressed concerns over affairs at the club.

“We agreed with the Mumias management that a board will be formed to oversee the elections so that they can be transparent,” said Ochiel.

The board includes a representative from the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Football Kenya Limited (FKL) and three individuals nominated by the candidates.

The three are Joram Ondere, Jack Kwamboka and former ‘Ingwe’ secretary general Richard Ekhalie.

Amin Walji has been appointed to coordinate the board’s activities.

The move follows the botched elections on earlier this month when both Kituyi and Magelo claimed to secured victory in a process marred by heightened confusion over the electoral process.
