More changes at 'Ingwe'

NAIROBI, Kenya, September 2- The game of musical chairs at AFC Leopards continue.
Barely two months after assuming the role of head coach, Robert Matano was on Thursday replaced by Dino Kitavi in the position while the former Sofapaka coach assumes his new role as technical director.

Gilbert Selebwa returns to the ‘Ingwe’ setup as Kitavi’s assistant while Harambee Stars goalkeeping coach Razak Siwa will remain in his current role.

The appointments take effect immediately with Kitavi tasked with lifting the legendary club from ninth spot on the Kenya Premier League (KPL) standings.

Kitavi is Leopard’s fourth coach this season following in the footsteps of Matano, Chris Makokha and Nick Yakhama.

The Leopards also issued an appeal for funds to sustain themselves for the remainder of the season.

“The executive committee will also like to inform the public that to date the club has spent over Sh14 million in running the club and requires another Sh8 million to complete the season,” said AFC in a statement.

AFC together with rest of the Kenya Premier League (KPL) clubs signed a multi million shilling television agreement in July with pan Africa sports broadcaster SuperSport in a deal expected to last up to 2015.

AFC also announced that its has appealed against its punishment of playing two matches behind closed doors on the grounds that the match commissars report did not take into account the behaviour of Sofapaka coach Sam Ssimbwa who they allege was the instigator of the chaos that followed their match against the defending champions.

“The club will also like to state that it is in the process of preparing a list of known trouble makers at AFC matches which will be forwarded to the relevant authorities including KPL, FKL and the police for them to be barred from attending matches at the stadium,” said the statement.
