Weru named in tour squad

NAIROBI, Kenya, June 16 – Kenya Sevens halfback Gibson Weru has been included in the squad that will head to South Africa for their clash against Mpumalanga Pumas on Saturday.Ronnie Mwenesi and Impala duo Lawrence Terer and Lawrence Buyachi have also been included in the tour party that leaves on Saturday for the match in Witbank which is a curtain raiser for the test match between the World and Tri-Nations champions Springboks and Italy.

Vice captain Mike Aung, Nato Simiyu, Victor Sudi, Willson Kopondo and Joel Nganaga have been ruled out due to various commitments.

The inclusion of these players will give Kenya coach Michael Otieno a chance to look at the depth he has at his disposal ahead of the first leg of the Elgon Cup against Uganda in Kampala on July 3.

Innocent Simiyu and co. got their international season to a winning start with a narrow 11-10 win over Zimbabwe at the Rugby Football Union of East Africa (RFUEA) grounds.
