Hernandez gets all clear to join United

MANCHESTER, May 27 – Mexico striker Javier Hernandez has been given the green light to complete his move to Manchester United after being granted a work permit on Thursday.Hernandez, who had already passed a medical and agreed personal terms with Sir Alex Ferguson’s team, was not guaranteed to be given the work permit as he has played less than 75 percent of his country’s matches over the last two years, which is the criteria required for a successful application.

However, United made a strong case based on the 22-year-old’s outstanding ability and potential and he will now move to Old Trafford from Chivas de Guadalajara on July 1.

"Manchester United is pleased to announce that Javier ‘Chicharito’ Hernandez has been granted a work permit and will join the club on 1 July 2010," a statement on the club’s website confirmed.

The forward, who scored in Mexico’s 2-1 friendly defeat by The Netherlands on Wednesday, is expected to be one of his country’s star performers at the World Cup.
