Adongo recalled to sevens squad

NAIROBI, Kenya, May 12 –Leon Adongo has been recalled to the Kenya sevens squad for the final two legs of the International Rugby Board (IRB) Sevens series.
The Kenya Harlequins and Rhino’s winger replaces Sydney Ashioya who together with Allan Onyango and Ben Nyambu will all miss out on the tour due to job commitments.

“Leon has been in great form throughout the Super series. We would have liked to carry Wilson K’opondo as well but he has exams,” said coach Benjamin Ayimba.

Kenya have an ardous task ahead of them if they are finish the season on a high starting with England from May 22-23 where there are in Pool B alongside New Zealand, Wales and Portugal and a week later lock horns with series leaders Samoa, Argentina and France in Edinburgh.

“Our pool in London is much less favourable than what we have in Scotland. New Zealand are hoping to finish the season on a high and will come at us hard,” said Ayimba.

“Portugal have always been a problematic side for us so we have to be on our guard when we play them, and wales of course they are world champions so we know what to expect,” he added.

The former Kenya captain believes his side can upset Samoa at the hallowed Murrayfield turf on May 29.

“We play Samoa in the first game of the Scotland sevens. They usually take a while to get their momentum so we hope to surprise them,” said Ayimba.
