Singh withdraws from Palmer event

ORLANDO, March 24 – Vijay Singh has withdrawn from the six million-dollar US PGA Arnold Palmer Invitational, the second week in a row a sore back has sidelined the three-time major champion from Fiji.
Singh, who has not won a PGA title since 2008, shared fourth at Miami earlier this month and 11th at the World Golf Championships CA Championship two weeks ago at Doral.

Sweden’s Carl Pettersson, who shared eighth last week at Innisbrook, replaced Singh in the field of 120 that tee off Thursday at the key tuneup event for next month’s Masters, the year’s first major championship.

Sweden’s Fredrik Jacobson also withdrew from Palmer’s event at Bay Hill, replaced in the lineup by Australia’s Steve Elkington.

Next week’s Houston Open offers players one final chance for competitive preparation ahead of the annual showdown at Augusta National Golf Club.
