Dutch fight back

NAIROBI, Kenya, February 22 – Maurice Ouma and Nehemiah Odhiambo both notched up half centuries to help Kenya post a total of 433 in reply to Netherlands first innings total of 385 in their ICC Intercontinental Cup match on Monday.
However the Dutch responded in belligerent fashion with a strong partnership from Alexei Kervezee and Eric Szwarcynski who took the tourists to 178 at stumps.

The hosts opened the day’s proceedings on 235-2 at Nairobi Gymkhana and immediately suffered a setback when Hiren Varaiya (1) only lasted an over when he was clean bowled by Mudassar Bukhari.

David Obuya whose century helped steer Kenya’s fight back the previous day fell soon after in the 60th over courtesy of Ryan Doeschate.

A ninety run partnership from Ouma and Jimmy Kamande (75) steadied Kenya’s ship for 25 overs taking the hosts to 334-6 before Doeschate struck by dismissing Ouma and then Kamande who departed with his team at 399-7.

Odhiambo’s score of 50 was the only other significant contribution in Kenya’s innings before Kervezee and Szwarcynski spearheaded the Dutch response with 85 and 89 runs respectively.

With their Netherlands leading by 130 runs, Kervezee and Szwarcynski will be hoping to pile more pressure on the hosts when they open proceedings on Tuesday morning.
