VANCOUVER, February 11 – The International Olympic Committee on Wednesday picked Buenos Aires as the location for their key 2013 meeting where the host city for the 2020 Summer Games will be selected.The Argentine capital defeated Kuala Lumpur by 58 votes to 31 at a meeting of the IOC ahead of the opening of the Winter Games in Vancouver on Friday.
No formal bids have yet been submitted for 2020, which will follow the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro in neighbouring Brazil.
Rome, Venice, Palermo and Istanbul are reportedly preparing bids. Other cities, including Cape Town, Durban, Dubai and Rabat, have also been mentioned as possible candidates.
