Golf Team ups the ante

NAIROBI, Kenya, September 16 – The national golf team is currently in residential training at Muthaiga Golf Club for the Africa Amateur Golf Championships set for Egypt.GOLFThe team that is being coached by Fred Kamau will switch its base to Mombasa whose altitude mirrors that of Cairo where the championships will take place.

The team will then return to Nairobi to receive the national flag from Sports minister Professor Hellen Sambili and will then depart on September 27.

Kimani Francis, Collins Omondi, Boniface Simwa and Sullivan Muthugia have been charged with wresting the title from South Africa who won the tournament back in 2007 in Namibia.

The biennial event will be held at the Dreamland Golf and Tennis Resort from September 29 to October 2.

The tournament recently received a $20,000 grant from the game’s governing body the Royal & Ancient Club.
