LONDON , July 16 – Middlesborough have agreed a 12 million pound (16 million euros) transfer of England winger Stewart Downing from the Teeside club to Aston Villa, Press Association reported on Wednesday.
The 24-year-old, currently recovering from foot surgery, has been at the centre of speculation notably from Everton and Tottenham following Boro’s relegation from the premiership.
The situation was complicated by the injury, which ironically was suffered in a clash with Villa’s Stilian Petrov in the penultimate game of the season.
Downing is now undergoing intensive rehabilitation, and is expected to return to full training in September.
