Is it really worth it?

NAIROBI, May 20 – Driving into the parking lot of a popular mall on a Saturday evening I spotted a red Subaru ahead of me with about 5 young lads within.ADEBAYOROn the front seat passenger side the young man had spread across the wind shield for all to see a pretty big cloth flag with Manchester United printed all the way down the front, the occupants of the car were too busy wooping to care about what a nuisance they were being and the driver was constantly tooting the horn.

Add alcohol to this already delicate balance and you may have some pretty hairy accidents as a result:  death by football.

However recently, Kenya was rocked by the death of an Arsenal supporter-he committed suicide because his team lost.

I wonder if Arsene Wenger even read the story, this action was a source of debate between myself and several of my friends; I argue that in no way is it possible that this man had no major worries or serious mental health issues.

He must have been unstable to begin with as no way conceivable would you hang yourself solely based on the dismal performance of your football team.

What about the fact that there is a next season? What about the fact that its not Gor Mahia playing and that cousin of yours who plays for them wont make as much money and as such will not be able to pay your fees!

Is it possible he took a bet on his team pledging all of his money on this game? Even as that is ridiculous – it would certainly make more sense.

They say that we are all built different that our psychological composition varies from one person to the other which is why we handle adversity uniquely – while others are quick to adapt to change and thrive on it others cannot handle the curve balls life throws us and consequently fall into depression and are prone to disease that plagues the mind.

Either way I find it impossible to reconcile the fact that a man would give his life not only for a foreign team that would not honor his sacrifice but one not even remotely contributing to the well being of his family or friends short of entertaining them. Would you commit suicide because your team lost a match?
