KPL Action hots up

NAIROBI, Kenya, February 20 – This weekend brings with it a bumper feast of Kenya Premier League (KPL) action with most of the key matches taking place on Sunday.FOOTBALLDefending champions Mathare United travel to Awendo to play Sony Sugar in the standout matches of the weekend.

United hit their stride in spectacular fashion with a 3-0 thrashing of Nairobi City Stars on Wednesday at Kasarani.

Sony Sugar on the other hand are reeling after losing their first two games to Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB) and Sher Karuturi and are yet to find the net which is going to become much tougher even on their home turf where they will be up against the imposing Edgar Ochieng and Austin Makacha.

City Stars will host red hot Western Stima who are fresh off a 2-0 win last weekend over AFC Leopards though they will be wary of Oliver Page’s side who have recruited heavily and want to prove a point after the mauling they received in midweek.

Leopards who are yet to make an impact on their return to the big time will host Bandari FC at the Coca Cola stadium in what promises to be a mouth watering encounter.

Bandari got their season up and running with a 2-0 win over Chemelil Sugar while ‘Ingwe’ have to put their two straight losses behind them as a confidence booster ahead of the titanic encounter with arch rivals Gor Mahia on February 28.

Thika United are currently cruising at the top of the table with six points after two wins out of two and next face Sofapaka at Thika stadium.

Hadji Mwachoki will be the go to player whose strike secured a 1-0 win for the central province side on Wednesday will be the go to man for Thika.

Chemelil and Gor hope to get their respective seasons back on track at each other’s expense when they face off at Chemelil after both sides lost last week.

For Gor, it could be a make or break fixture for their coach James Sianga who has been under pressure following ‘Kogallo’s” elimination from the Confederation of Africa Football (CAF) Champions League at the hands of APR Rwanda and their poor start to the league.

Ulinzi Stars will take on Red Berets at Greensteds while Agrochemicals hosts Sher on Saturday.
