New coach for World Hope

NAIROBI, November 18 – World Hope will have a new coach for the 2009 Kenya Premier League season.

OLIVER_PAGE_262739502.jpgOliver Page has been appointed the new head coach for the Kawangware based club which recently changed its name to Nairobi City Stars.

The fate of current coach Bobby Ogolla and his assistant Kennedy Odhiambo could not be immediately established.

Page is a former player in the German Bundesliga and accredited with the UEFA ‘Pro’ License.

He started his professional career at Bayer 04 Leverkusen in 1988 where he played for three years alongside Brazilian Manager Jorginho before moving to Dynamo Dresden where he played for two years.

Page then gave up playing to become a coach and pastor and started work on his licenses in 2001. Page studied theology at the International Bible Training Institute, England in 1994 before becoming a Pastor in May ’99.

He has coached Sportfreunded Siegen U-23 and VFL Hamm, and received further practical training with Werder Bremen (German Champions 2004).

He will have his work cut out as the club which was in the hunt for the title for most of the season has recently fallen off the rails.

World Hope has registered a single win in the last four matches and are currently seventh in the league standings.

Page’s appointment continued a hectic month during which World Hope was taken over by Ambassadors in Sports (AIS Kenya) last month.

Veteran Musa Otieno who will be the honorary vice chairman of Nairobi City Stars said the initiative will help develop the Kenya premier league since it has expertise in professional soccer ministries in USA.

He said that AIS is set to equip Kenyan soccer by offering training opportunities at improving a number of football programmes with the local sponsors.
