Beth Wanjiru better known in the music circles as ‘Tybe’ (Pronounced Tie Bee) is talented and has an amazing story too. Born and raised in Korogocho slums, this young lady has revitalized the gospel scene with her amazing vocals, catchy beats and feel good sing along tune called ‘New Song’.
Many of you probably know what Korogocho faithfully offers; flying toilets, gangs, drug addicts, delinquents, rape victims and such horrifying tales. However, God has an amazing way of making precious jewelry from pieces of broken art. That’s what made her stand out for me. That despite the environment she was raised in; she has grown above that, achieved excellence in her music career and now she wants to do music to uplift her community and change the story of Korogocho.
The first time I watched the video on one of the local television shows, it took me a while to figure out if it was a local video. Try muting the sound of the video and you will instantly agree with me that the videography is way above the local standards.
The song reminds me of David’s words in Psalm 144:9 I will sing a new song to you, my God; on the ten-stringed lyre I will make music to you. It takes me back to the troubles David had and God defended him every time.
In a world where many lyrics are shallower than the depth of saliva in our mouths, it’s quite refreshing to hear a new song, a new voice, a new sound and a new testimony. The lady perfectly describes art in this song: Every artist dips his brush in his own soul, and paints his own nature into his pictures.
