This Day in Rock and Roll

jimiHappy birthday Sir Paul McCartney! The Beatles singer, who also fronted the successful band Wings with his late wife Linda, turns 71 today. Guinness World Records describes McCartney as the “most successful composer and recording artist of all time”.

He is an inductee in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and has sold over 15 million albums as a solo artist. Also a successful song writer, 32 of the songs he has written have all made it to number one,

Fun fact: More than 2,200 artists have covered the Beatles song “Yesterday”(he wrote that about his relationship with Jane Asher) .That’s more than any other song in history.

Happy 50th birthday to Guns n Roses keyboardist Dizzy Reed. Other than Axl Rose, he is the longest standing member of the band. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of G N’ R but refused to attend the ceremony. He still tours with the band.

On this Day in:
1967 – The Jimi Hendrix Experience made its debut performance at the Monterey Pop Festival in California.

1977 – Johnny Rotten (Sex Pistols) was slashed on his face and hands by some kids armed with knives.

1987 – A woman sued Motley Crue for $5,000 claiming that she lost her hearing because a concert was too loud.
