Saba Saba with love

If democracy was alive

Winner would have taken it all

Lady, I should have won your heart

And have it all to myself

I campaigned tirelessly to win your vote

I put my name on the ballot box

I spent my hard earned money

To treat you to extravagance

I treated you to expensive things beautiful woman

Not to buy your vote, but to show you

Show you how your life will be with me

I wanted to win your heart fair and square

I wasn’t the only man who was after you

There were so many who eyed you

But one man was my biggest contender

My biggest threat to winning your heart

The battle lines were drawn

You went on dates with him, my competitor

Then on dates with me. You were torn in two

Which man should you choose?

The polls conducted in your heart

Showed it was going to be a two-horse race

Me or him, who will you love? Too close to call

Who will you choose to govern love in your heart?

I am sorry things got ugly as the fight for you raged on

Him and I almost exchanged physical blows

I hated seeing his face, hearing his name

The man who stood between me and the woman I want to love

I am sorry I insulted him, the times I tried to defame him

He called his friends and formed a coalition

I called my friends and formed a rival coalition

My friends met you to remind you how good a man I am

My coalition praised my impressive record

But my competitor outspent me. He used technology to chat you up

He used to email you digitally while I sent you hand-written letters

I was scared something tragic would happen. And my fears came true

One sad day, I heard you were no longer single

That you had given your heart to him and made him your lover

I was angry. Furious. I cried foul. You should be mine not his

I rushed to appeal your decision before you go to bed with him

I brought evidence implicating his sins. He isn’t the man he claims to be

You didn’t even care to look at my evidence. You rubbished it

Pushed me away. Laughed at me and called me a sore loser

I saw you kissing him. That night you went and made love to him

The world laughed at me. Said I have been single for too long

I should give up and let you go. Love doesn’t love me

Everything was crumbling. I ran away. Took a plane

Flew to hide my broken heart in America

I kept hearing stories of you and him making the sweetest of love

I saw the pictures of you two on your trip to China

From China he bought you a necklace to circle your neck like a railway

I have never been so jealous in my entire life

I covered my ears, closed my eyes not to see the romantic news

I tried loving another woman but no one compares to you

It’s only you I want to love. That’s why it broke my heart

When I heard that he had started hurting you

I heard of the ways he misspent money belonging to you

How he would fail in protecting you the day you were attacked

That day you were raped at Westgate and he wasn’t around

His focus didn’t belong to you. I had to come and save you

My friends welcomed me back like the king I think I am

The lion was back to roar. I was told what happened while I was away

I came back and though you belonged to another man

I said it out publicly that I love you

I told him off and mentioned ways he had failed you

He hid you from me. Warned you not to meet me

He said I walk away and let you two be. I asked where is democracy?

Shouldn’t you have a say? I dared we meet man-to-man and dialogue

I wanted to see you. I hear you have bruises on your face

You’re no longer happy. His many friends tried to scare me

Saying I was causing unnecessary tension

I didn’t care. All I wanted was to see you; the one who was stolen

I gave him an ultimatum. That I must see you before Saba Saba

Or I will force my way to see you. If they fight me I will charge on

Nane Nane. Tisa Tisa. Kumi Kumi until I get to you

Because you beautiful woman, are Ten out of Ten. Kumi kwa Kumi
