  1. I wish the government started taking such constructive criticism, more seriously. There must be the will by government to take certain concrete measures as envisaged in this commentary.

  2. I developed a project with Kakenya Ntaiya of Kakenya’s Center for Excellence, which has now been suspended because of a security advisory put out by the Canadian government’s Department of Foreign Affairs. I am a faculty at a community college in Toronto, Canada and we have a number of projects in developing nations (and in Canada as well). When I was in Kenya last spring on a similar project with my college and Me to We, I contacted Ms. Ntaiya to meet with her to talk about the amazing work that she has been doing in her community, close to Enoosaen, in western Kenya. When I returned to Canada I asked her if she would be interested in developing a project that would benefit her school for girls and she was most interested. Over the next few months we developed a project that would have provided some benefit to her school and the students who attend it. While it did not involve a massive amount of money, but was more of a small capital works project, it has been called off until the situation changes. This obviously has a trickle effect as every other business that we secured services from will now also loose out. That includes transportation services, a hotel in the area around her school, the restaurant that we’d be eating at, and businesses that we’d patronize to buy things to bring home, the safari company that we planned a one day safari with, Kenya Airways, etc. This is small potatoes compared to other projects, but amounts to about $30,000Cdn. I can’t help but think that this will get worse before it gets better, and that is not what your wonderful country needs.
