Response to Kanye’s “I Am a God”

So Kanye’s album dropped and so did our jaws in bewilderment. I was honestly shocked at how abrasive the album was and it seems I was in good company. But even more shocking than the screaming and shrills, is the content. I skimmed through most of the tracks but for one. The title was intriguing. I had to listen to it. “I Am a God (feat. God)” Yes. The G is in caps.

And now I wish I hadn’t pressed play. Kanye is clearly disturbed. What was with the screams at the end? As someone rightly pointed out, this song would have been Lucifer’s soundtrack, right before he was kicked out of heaven for wanting to be God. But it would be wrong for me to take the moral high horse and act like I haven’t wanted to be God sometimes, which is equally sinful. This post by Odd Thomas highlights that better than I ever could. However, one thing I am thankful for is artists who use their gifts to glorify God, rather than clamour for His Glory. This song from the WLAK(We Live As Kings) Album is a perfect response to the blasphemous song by Kanye. Listen to it. This is one listen you will not regret.
