Pitbull has announced his collaboration with Jennifer Lopez is set to be the official anthem for the 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil.
The track ‘We Are One’, which also features popular Brazilian singer Claudia Leitte, will be the anthem for the tournament, which kicks off on June 12 in Sao Paulo.
Pitbull posted about the track on Twitter last night, writing: “It’s official now lets make history @FIFAcom @JLo @ClaudiaLeitte #WeAreOne (sic)”, along with a photo of himself with Claudia, who is currently a judge on the Brazilian version of talent show ‘The Voice’.
Pitbull’s single ‘Timber’, featuring Ke$ha, has conquered the charts this month and he has collaborated with Jennifer on three previous tracks, 2011’s ‘On The Floor’, ‘Dance Again’ a year later, and ‘Live it Up’, a single from her upcoming album.
Although further details of the World Cup song are yet to be revealed, it can be expected to include English, Spanish and Portuguese lyrics, to give it global appeal.
The last FIFA World Cup song was 2010’s ‘Waka Waka’ by Shakira with South African group Freshly Ground.
Pitbull’s ‘We Are One’ is the third World Cup song by a Latin star, after Shakira and Ricky Martin, who released ‘The Cup of Life’ (La Copa de la Vida), for the 1998 tournament in France. It hit the number one spot in seven different countries.
