Four Nigerian soccer clubs have been suspended after being involved in suspicious matches, a 79-0 win and a 67-0 win.
Muke Umeh, chairman of the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) Organising Committee, revealed the clubs were going to be investigated due to the “scandal” which saw Police Machine FC hammer Bubayaro FC 67-0, while Plateau United Feeders destroyed Akurba FC 79-0, BBC News reports.
He said: “It is unacceptable – a scandal of huge proportions.
“The teams are suspended indefinitely, pending further sanctions.
“We will investigate this matter thoroughly and get to the bottom of it.”
Plateau United and Police Machine were level on points and only separated by goal difference going into their play-off matches to play for promotion.
Following the stunning scorelines, United clinched promotion on goal difference.
