Ne-Yo took a break because he felt “underappreciated” and wanted to see if anyone cared about him.

The ‘She Knows’ singer has been on hiatus for two years as he felt he needed more recognition for his pioneering sound and was happy to see people still “cared” while he was out of the spotlight.

Asked for the reasons behind his hiatus, he said: “You want to give people the chance to miss you, especially if you’re in a place where you feel underappreciated, which I gotta say is something I dealt with.

“Because I’m not this super-boisterous guy who runs around telling people [what I’ve done], people forget.

“Before ‘Closer’, there was no R&B cats doing EDM or dance music, it just wasn’t happening, ‘Closer’ was the first one.

“I didn’t get any credit for that, I’m not crying or complaining but when you don’t feel like people are paying attention in the way they should, you go away to see if they care – and people cared, so I’m back.”

Ne-Yo’s latest music video for ‘She Knows’ is set in a strip club and the 32-year-old singer wanted to show how pole dancers are “athletes” who can do things that “average women” can’t.

Speaking to ‘BBC Newsbeat’, he said: “Everybody has seen a strip club video.

“The track, when I first heard it, I was like ‘This is something I have to hear in a strip club’. So we knew we wanted to go down that route, but we didn’t want it to be typical.

“And on top of that, we wanted to show the art form that is pole dancing, it is not as easy as they make it look, those women are athletes, the average woman can not get up there and do that.”

    1. KENYANS:THERE CAN ONLY BE ONE LEADER AT A TIME.RAILA AND KALONZO AND THE REST WERE DEFEATED AND THEY SHOULD SUPPORT THE CURRENT GOVERNMENT BUT NOT KEEEP ON DIVIDING KENYANS.

      1. nobody is dividing anyone in any way. Raila when he spoke he categorically listed the reasons why he felt the current government has failed, concerns which are shared by all kenyans, even you I believe, unless you are playing bogus allegiance to a stinking governance, and he just asked them to sit and chat a way forward that would be favourable to Kenyans.

  1. Now after talking all that yap, you can go back where you came from as you’ve said nothing that will help us other than pointless chest thumping. Uhuru and Jubilee are here to stay na hakuna kitu mtado? We shall show you exactly how useless CORD is on the next matter on the floor of the house. Kelele tu!

    1. u must angry…i wonder why. he just pointed out the obvious. i wonder which kenya you live in mr. for some of us, tunadedi hapa.

      1. Tell him. His blog post is very mediocre and lacks substance but carries with it King Cobra venom of negative ethnicity. Kenyans will stand against anybody who make life unbearable to ordinary citizens.

    2. Kenyans must be told the truth. That is what Raila has done. All governors in the country have been speaking the same things. Whether you like it or not, Raila is a Kenyan like you and me, and he will die here like you and me. This is our country and it belongs to all of us. Stop chest thumping and realize that the future of Jubilee is hanging on a thin thread.

    3. May be you are not staying in this country my friend. I wish you could be sober enough. we are not blaming anyone, but the situation indicates there is a problem that should be handled.
Let the oppostition do their work; they are there to awaken the government. you know if they keep quite you will blame them. Jubilee promised us many things. i feel tha this is the right time to fulfill them.

  2. Those are intelligence words, who he has understanding to faint them in his mind, and color them in his heart.

  3. We cannot allow our democracy to lie in the hands of thieves, tribal guys, Kenya had gone far away but the kind of leadership we have is really alarming, This guy called UHURU what really has he done for this country? Rather than rigging election, leadership is not attained through brutal democracy, RAILA 4reva

  4. YOUR WORDS HIS EXCELLENCY HAVE GREAT PASSION AND SURERLY IN MY LIFE I HAVE NEVER SEEN SUCH A GATHERRING LIFE I SAW YESTERDAY ON YOUR RETURN. OUR COUNTRY HAS BEEN THROUGH ROBBERY OF THE HIGHEST ORDER. MOST HOUSES NOW CANT AFFORD THREE MEALS A DAY AND SOON EVEN ONE. I PERSONALLY AM FEED UP WITH THE CURRENT GORVENMENT AND GORVENANCE, WE ARE STILL IN COLLONIALISM AND NOW WORSE . I WILL NOT SIT WAIT TO SEE A COUNTRY ONCE RESPECTED UNIVERSERLY TURN IN TO B LAUGHING STOKE. AM A KENYAN, THIS IS MY COUNTRY AND LEADERS ARE JUST BUT OUR EMPLOYEES, IF THEY FAIL TO DELIVER WE LOOSE CONFIDENCE IN THEM AND ASK THEM TO GIVE THE JOBS TO THER PEOPLE WE ELECTED

  5. hmmm… so far so good.

One problem is that although the demands are clearly laid out, the ultimatum remains unclear. Mr.Raila by what means do you intend to back your demands?

  6. Sounds like a campaign speech to me. He doesn’t seem to realize that the elections are over. Some people call him Baba. Actually they should be calling him Babu. The guy is a mzee!!!

      1. You claim to be one of his serious followers yet you don’t know that he has a grandson??? Give the guy the respect that is due to him. He is Babu!!!
