Marc Jacobs pleased with his replacement at Louis Vuitton

Marc JacobsMarc Jacobs has given his Louis Vuitton successor Nicolas Ghesquière the seal of approval.

The designer – who left his position as the luxury brand’s creative director in October – has given his successor the thumbs up and is excited to see what changes Nicolas brings to the fashion house.

He said: “He is a brilliant designer and he’ll do something completely different. I’ve always admired Nicolas. I’m curious to see what he’ll do. We have such different aesthetics

“Things need to change. I’m really glad someone I respect and admire, and think is a really great talent, is there.”

Marc quit Louis Vuitton to focus on his own eponymous brand and prepare it for an IPO, where shares of stock in a company are sold to the general public.

In a talk with architect Peter Marino held at London’s Tate Modern museum, he admitted: “I’m a little scared. A healthy fear. I don’t know where it’s all going to go. I learned a lot from working for Vuitton.”

The fashion favourite also touched upon his last ever show for the label at Paris Fashion Week and its sombre swan song vibe, insisting he didn’t know his spring/summer 2014 collection would be his last at the time.

According to the Daily Telegraph newspaper, Marc added: “What inspired the set were pieces of previous sets, painted black. My idea was I didn’t know what to do, so we did it all in black.”
