Initially joining the company to fill time before going to pursue her Graduate studies at Leeds where she’d been accepted for a course in Communications – Chao chose to remain after realizing her passion of making a difference would be fulfilled while at the station.
A graduate from the College of St Catherine St Paul, Minnesota she graduated in Broadcast Journalism and minored in French & International Relations and spent close to 2 years at the United Nations Mission to Eritrea & Ethiopia working in the press office for as a UNV (United Nations Volunteer)
During her time at the station, Chao has worked on various shows including Urban Nights a show specifically dedicated to the Diaspora; MTV TRL – based on the immensely popular MTV show formatted specifically for radio; The Lounge – the show that launched the Neo Soul genre in Kenya and more recently created and hosts After Hours a late night talk show geared towards upwardly mobile 28+ year old listeners. She has also filled in on all the shows at one time or another.
In addition to her on air responsibilities, Chao also handles all CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) activities for Capital Group and works as artist liaison/handler whenever International Artists come into town for shows.
On a personal note she adds: “My faith, family and friends are both the anchor and foundation that keep my head out of the clouds and I am fiercely loyal and protective of them.
My personal mantra is: “We have a responsibility to empower and uplift in whatever shape or form all those we encounter with the abilities and talents we’ve been given; use that opportunity wisely because you never know whose life you may have touched”.
I hope to catch you on any of my shows xx
