So we did a random survey in the office of what people think about Holy Dave and the answers were quite diverse. He is a swagged up guy, he is a gospel rapper, ni boy anajipenda sana, he is team Jesus among many other responses.
Well, I couldn’t agree more. This guy has been in the industry for almost a decade now and was introduced to us through Not a Joke Hip Hop Jam featuring boy Java aka Juliani. He has since done many songs, featured many artistes among them including Jimmy Gait, Ekko Dydda, Chuchu, Mc Dice, Kelele takatifu, Astar, Joy Muthengi among others.
Yet in this joint, Holy Dave brings a side of him we have never seen before. He is emotional, vulnerable, real while appearing in the video of this song titled ‘Milk and Honey.’
What I love about this song is the hope it gives beyond the grave. Loosing a loved one is one of the most painful experiences anyone can go through. The thought of never seeing them again adds salt to injury. But as Christians, we are called to mourn not like the world does (1 Thessalonians 4:13-16) because we know that anyone who dies in Christ will be resurrected on the last day.
Well, the song has serious punch lines, heavy bass line and serious kicks and snare which makes you bump your head as you reflect on the heavy message of the song. And as a writer who loves my readers, I want to leave you with a question and a punch line verse from the bible:
Now that death is certain and guaranteed, where have you placed your hope in? The hope we have as Christian believers is guaranteed home with streets of gold, bright light, a land of milk and honey and an awesome worship of the Trinity.
Hosea 13:14 “I will ransom them from the power of the grave; I will redeem them from death. Where, O death, are your plagues? Where, O grave, is your destruction?”
