Daft Punk rumoured for surprise VMA performance

DAFTDaft Punk are rumoured for a surprise performance at the MTV Video Music Awards in New York City later this month.

The electronic duo – made up of Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo and Thomas Bangalter – may join the star-studded line-up at the awards show, according to TV host Stephen Colbert, who claims the band cancelled their performance on his show due to a conflict with MTV.

The ‘Get Lucky’ hitmakers were set to give a rare TV performance on Comedy Central’s ‘The Colbert Report’ last night (06.08.13), but pulled out of the appearance as MTV wants them to perform exclusively at the VMAs in New York City on August 25.

Colbert claimed on his show: “Here’s the story … it’s a true story: We booked click and clack over here about a month ago. This network is owned by Viacom, which is also the owner of MTV. Apparently, Daft Punk are going to make a surprise appearance on the MTV Video Music Awards. Don’t tell anyone, because – fun fact – no one told me until two hours ago.”

Already confirmed to take the stage at the VMAs are Kanye West and Lady Gaga, who is expected to perform her comeback single ‘Applause’ for the first time.
