Cyclist celebrates race win before last lap; he finished in 56th place [Video]

A Spanish cyclist was left devastated when he began celebrating his win during the Tour of California before realising he still had a lap to go and ultimately finished in 56th place.

A cyclist celebrated his win at the finishing line when he still had a lap left to go.

Eloy Teruel was in the lead with just one circuit left to go in the Tour of California, but when he crossed the finishing line he made the mistake of thinking he’d already completed the final lap and began celebrating.

The Spanish cyclist was so ecstatic with his unexpected win in the race’s seventh stage that he raised his hands in triumph and slowed down as his competitors began to catch up with him.

The 31-year-old sportsman’s premature celebration resulted in him finishing in 56th place.
