A four-year-old boy discovered he had a sea snail growing inside his knee just weeks after falling over and cutting the joint while at the beach.
Paul Franklin bruised his knee while on a visit to the beach with his family after falling on a rock, but the swelling continued for several weeks.
His mother Rachael took him to have urgent care as his knee began to grow larger and larger and the doctor diagnosed with him having a staph infection.
The joint eventually looked as big as an orange and when Rachael squeezed the wound to drain it a little black object, which she first thought was a rock, came out of his knee and she was shocked when it started moving.
She said: “It looked like a rock, it was a black thing, I put it on paper towel. When I turned it over, it was a sea snail.”
Paul’s father Ken thinks his son must have fallen into a sea snail nest when he tumbled, resulting in an egg getting trapped in his knee and then hatching.
