{"id":801326,"date":"2026-05-11T11:03:35","date_gmt":"2026-05-11T08:03:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.capitalfm.co.ke\/news\/?p=801326"},"modified":"2026-05-11T11:20:43","modified_gmt":"2026-05-11T08:20:43","slug":"doctors-union-demands-55-pay-rise-issues-90-day-ultimatum-over-cba-implementation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.capitalfm.co.ke\/news\/2026\/05\/doctors-union-demands-55-pay-rise-issues-90-day-ultimatum-over-cba-implementation\/","title":{"rendered":"KMPDU Doctors Demand 55 Percent Salary Increase in New CBA"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>NAIROBI, Kenya, May 11 &#8211; The Kenya Medical Practitioners, Pharmacists and Dentists Union (KMPDU) doctors are demanding a 55 per cent pay rise and urgent settlement of arrears in the 2025\u20132029 Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA).<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In a statement, the union indicated that the agreement aligns with inflation trends and the cost of living and pointed out that failure to implement it will result in a disruption of hospital operations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Meeting during the 10th Annual Delegates Conference at Safari Park Hotel, delegates from across the country ratified leadership elected on 2nd April 2026 and adopted policy, governance and labour resolutions that will guide the union\u2019s agenda in the coming years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The union wants negotiations concluded within 90 days, with implementation of any agreed salary adjustments to begin within 21 days thereafter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cCBA 2025\u20132029: Proposed 55% salary adjustment aligned to inflation trends, with negotiations to be concluded within 90 days,\u201dthe statement read.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It is also demanding immediate settlement of outstanding arrears for the 2024\/2025 financial year, citing existing court determinations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe expect compliance with court rulings on arrears. These obligations cannot remain outstanding indefinitely,\u201d the union said in its resolutions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-warning-of-health-system-strain\">Warning of Health System Strain<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The delegates warned that failure to implement the CBA could push the health sector into crisis, particularly in public hospitals already struggling with staffing shortages.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWithout implementation of these agreements, hospitals are staring at a crisis.
